Fun Fact Friday-Blogging

Blogging is serious business! Did you know that there are over 450 million active English language blogs according to the website: http://www.hattrickassociates.com/tag/how-many-blogs-exist/. There are blog awards, books and movies made out of a simple blog and whole careers jumpstarted from a simple blog. The thing is blogging is not simple at all, at least good blogging is not simple. Quite frankly I am in blog envy right now. For the 200+ people who have read my blog and stumbled upon this page I thank you for spending a moment with me. I am new to this blog business. I have yet to find a blog voice, so until then I will keep writing, sharing, and sending you random facts through the week. Yes, yes, I know I am a photographer, and the rules typically say to make this strictly about my photography...but I am less than the typical girl, or business person. In fact, if you keep reading this blog long enough you will find out a lot about me a Texas born, lived in 6 states, now PA resident girl. Who happens to LOVE taking Photographs and anything art.

To celebrate blogging here are a couple of my favorite blogs. Click on their title to be taken to their blog.

Cave Princess: This awesome blog is not only packed with great tasty healthy recipes and work outs, but it is written by a friend I knew in Middle School, mother of three, and super nice gal.

I Heart Photography: A Photography Blog from a photographer I admire in Austin, TX. I think her photography is beautiful. She photographed my baby girl when she was 6 months old and created timeless precious art of my then baby girl for my walls.

The Honest Toddler: This site is HILARIOUS, and can be appreciated by any parent.

Jasmine Star Photography Blog: Jasmine Star is a photographer hero of mine. She is amazing, has an inspiring story and I definitely have blog envy every time I go to her page.

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all get to get out of the house and have some fun this weekend!

What a Wednesday

I didn't get to do my family shoot today that I had planned, that will be moved to Saturday if the weather holds out for us, but I did have a family day... with my own family! LOVE

I have a semi new lens, but since I am a creature of habit I have not used it much since I got it this past Christmas.  However, today I decided to use it.  It has a wide aperture of 1.8 which I am not really use to, I tried photographing my son to test it out, but since I had the aperture set to 1.8 and the fact that it is a manual focus, I found most of my shots to be blurry. :(  However this collage to the left came out pretty good, I just had to narrow my app a bit. The beauty of testing out new equipment is that I get to have fun with my kids at the same time.  BONUS!!!!!!!!!

Tonight my family and I were on a walk when the sun started hitting us just right. So of course we had to have some fun with our shadows....here is a collage of my daughter and I taking shadow pictures with my IPhone. :) pure fun

Okay this is just one I wanted to squeeze in.  It was taken with the front camera of my IPhone so excuse the quality, but I just love it.  He melts my heart and I just had to show him off a bit.

Forever Evolving…I Hope

Taken with my IPhone 4S. Just a quick snap catching the moment.
I had lots of titles for today’s blog before I settled on the one you see here…..Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie (song title stolen from the Misfits from Jem and the Holograms) J, or Lifetime Learner…. The concept is the same, I love knowledge and learning,  and I hope to continue to absorb information, learn from others who have succeeded before me, and to set my goals so that I never settle.  For those who critique my work I say thank you, for I learn something every time, the positive with the negative.  I may not change based on a critique but at least I am now empowered with the knowledge of what expectations there are out there for me.  I will not drown in criticism I will take what I need to take from those that are critical and rise above the rest of the …. (looking for a politically correct word for crap). J  I am not even close to perfect, I know that, I recognize my limitations, but I will not be held down by them and I will find a way to continue to do what I love, create, and enjoy.  Thankfully I have been surrounded so far by encouragement and praise, and I love you all for that. Love Laugh Click  that is my motto!

So what I am reading and studying right now?  I am learning Photoshop CS6...so far all of my editing has been in Lightroom and I am super excited about the realm of possibilities this powerful program has in store for me.  This book is great, and although I have just recently dived into in, I highly recommend it to any Photoshop user that wants clear direct, but not put you completely to sleep, information.

Coming up....On Wednesday (weather permitting) I get to photograph the beautiful Tony family of three.  I am so excited.  We are going to Mellon Park here in Pittsburgh, which is just gorgeous this time of year, and has so many lovely natural backdrops, I just can't wait to start clicking the shutter.  Check back later this week for some of those pictures from the shoot. To the right is a picture I took of their gorgeous daughter 2 years ago...my how time flies!!!

Fun Fact Friday!

Did you know that over 70 million people still own a VCR??  I didn't!  Quite frankly I thought I was in the minority that still had and uses a VCR.  Now don't think I am in stone age just yet, I have a DVD player, but I still appreciate my VCR.  Especially for the fact that now that my daughter is old enough to enjoy Disney movies, I can share my collection of Disney VHS tapes with her.  I have over 30 tapes of various Disney movies all together, and it save me from spending the extra money on the DVD version....sorry Disney.   Now of course we have newer ones on DVD, but classics like these in the picture....well those are going to stay VHS...until my VCR eats them that is.  :)

Happy Weekend to you all!!!!!!

Love Laugh Click

My children teach me everyday not to take life so seriously...laugh, have fun, enjoy life, and do not sweat the small stuff. Children experience life brand new, and it is wonderful to see the world through their eyes.

Random thought....

Have you ever moved?  If so, what do you miss most about your old place?

My family and I moved over a year ago to a new house slightly outside of Pittsburgh.  We wanted more space, and to get that we had to move farther out, and although I really love where we are living now, I catch myself missing things about our old home.  For example we had a great garden, and this time of year my lavender bush would have been in full bloom... I miss the smell of lavender in my garden.  I know, I know, I can plant more, and I will , but for some reason it is just not quite the same.

Happy Monday, hope you all have a blessed week.

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all the amazing daddies out there!  You will never know how truly special you are to your child/children!

I read an article the other day that had a list of all the things that make a great parent, and a happy childhood, but forgetting all the research, and all the expert advice, I believe it comes down to LOVE, TIME, and RESPECT.  Love your children unconditionally, spend as much time as you possibly can with them giving them your undivided attention, and respect them all the while teaching them to respect others too.

Fun Fact Friday

So growing up and living in Texas I never imagined I would consider myself anything less than a through and through TEXAS girl; however, Pittsburgh and it's wonderful suburbs have won me over.  While I will always be proud of my Texas roots, and will always love to visit, Pittsburgh is home.  Despite a couple of wicked winters, the past ten years living here have been amazing.

Recently I read that Pittsburgh has been rated by various publications as one of the most "livable cities" and that this past year National Geographic named Pittsburgh one of the best worldwide travel destinations.  So to my Texas family and friends there is no better excuse to come and visit, and to all of us that live here already, there is no place like home.

Happy Friday everyone!
Taken with a Blackberry(only camera on me at the time).

What is the best camera?

I heard a great photographer say one time, that the very best camera is the one that is on you at the time. And although I will always love my Nikon the best, my IPhone4S is what I ALWAYS have on me, so on days like today when I caught my kids having a tender moment with each other I was happy to have my camera phone on me.

All About Anna

Recently I had the great pleasure of photographing Anna, a beautiful and talented dance who is in the heart of her high school career.  We had a fantastic shoot, from dancing to classic portraits we spent over two hours and four outfit changes together.  It was a fun way to watch the sun set.  Anna is not only gorgeous and talented but one of the nicest gals you will meet.
